Can AI agents automate AutoCAD?

AutoCAD exposes one of the broadest supported CAD automation stacks. Local Windows and macOS editions support ObjectARX C++, managed .NET where available, AutoLISP, command scripts, and product startup switches; Windows also supplies ActiveX automation, and selected surfaces expose a JavaScript API. These layers create and modify drawings, entities, commands, UI, sheet sets, standards, transmittals, database links, and external-system integrations. AutoLISP can drive nearly any command-line operation, while accoreconsole and ScriptPro process drawing batches in the background. Autodesk Platform Services adds an OAuth-protected Automation API that runs AutoCAD scripts and application bundles against DWG files in Autodesk's cloud engine, creates or queries drawings, purges, plots to DWF or PDF, and returns asynchronous work-item status through polling, callbacks, or WebSockets. The cloud service supports scalable batches but excludes AutoCAD vertical-product commands, charges against APS quotas, enforces engine lifecycle and security rules, and requires packaged activities plus input and output storage. Desktop APIs are powerful but edition, operating-system, trust-path, binary compatibility, command prompt, and UI-thread constraints matter. No product-specific first-party MCP, verified named low-code connector, repeatable visual RPA result, or computer-use result was established.
