Can AI agents automate WooCommerce?
Automattic · hybrid · commerceretail
WooCommerce has a broad, self-hosted automation surface. REST API v3 reads, creates, updates, deletes, and batch-processes products, variations, orders, customers, coupons, refunds, taxes, shipping, payment gateways, settings, reports, system status, data, and webhooks as JSON. User-bound consumer keys can be read-only, write-only, or read/write, and the application authorization endpoint lets merchants grant keys without copying them. WooCommerce includes `wp wc` commands for most API work plus database, storage, extension-marketplace, blueprint, status, and delivery operations with structured formats. The plugin and extension model exposes extensive PHP actions, filters, block interfaces, and custom webhook topics. WooCommerce core now also has native MCP support, but it remains a developer preview. The current shared WordPress MCP adapter exposes canonical product query/create and order operations through the Abilities API; an older direct WooCommerce MCP endpoint is deprecated. The MCP contract is official and promising but is much narrower and less stable than REST or WC-CLI. Hosting, WordPress and WooCommerce versions, extensions, PHP execution, server security, and store-specific customization create more operational variability than a managed SaaS. Computer-use viability is unassessed.
