Can AI agents automate Microsoft Foundry?

Microsoft · saas · platformdeveloper-toolsenterprise

Microsoft Foundry, also documented as Azure AI Foundry, is automatable today through project REST endpoints and official SDKs. This record is the Foundry model, agent, and evaluation platform. It is not Palantir Foundry and not Microsoft Azure as a whole-cloud identity. Callers use https://{resource}.services.ai.azure.com/api/ and the project path /api/projects/{project}/, plus an OpenAI v1-compatible route. Authentication is Microsoft Entra ID with scope https://ai.azure.com/.default, or an API key in the api-key header. Microsoft recommends Entra for production; API keys lack per-user traceability and do not cover Agents, Evaluations, or Toolbox. Official azure-ai-projects clients exist for Python, Java, JavaScript, and .NET. Azure Developer CLI installs azd ext install microsoft.foundry for azd ai agent, connection, project, and related commands; several of those surfaces are public preview. Microsoft documents a cloud-hosted Foundry MCP Server at https://mcp.ai.azure.com with Entra sign-in and Contributor or higher on the project. Learn marks that MCP feature public preview, without an SLA, and not recommended for production workloads. Connector catalogs were not opened. Computer-use viability is unassessed. API scores 8 and is the best path because it is the durable project contract. MCP scores 6 because it is official but preview.

No repeatable UI probe was run. Foundry REST, official SDKs, Azure Developer CLI Foundry extensions, and the hosted Foundry MCP Server cover models, agents, and evaluations without browser control of the Foundry portal. This record is not Palantir Foundry and not the Azure Resource Manager control plane as a whole-cloud identity.
