Can AI agents automate Adobe Experience Manager?
Adobe · saas · documentsenterpriseplatform
Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service is automatable today through documented HTTP APIs. Newer OpenAPI-based Sites and Assets APIs use Adobe IMS OAuth 2.0: Server-to-Server client_credentials for unattended jobs, Web App authorization_code for user-delegated backends, and Single Page App authorization_code with PKCE. Callers send Bearer tokens and an X-Api-Key, after an Adobe Developer Console project, Product Profiles, and a deployed api.yaml client-ID allowlist. Content Fragment Management OpenAPI is the current CRUD path on Author. Content Fragment Delivery with OpenAPI and the AEM GraphQL API deliver JSON; Delivery OpenAPI may need an Adobe Support ticket. The older Assets HTTP API at /api/assets remains for folder and metadata work, but Content Fragment use and binary create or update on that API are deprecated. Cloud Manager exposes a separate REST API for programs, environments, and pipelines with the same OAuth Server-to-Server credential type. Adobe hosts a first-party AEM MCP Server at https://mcp.adobeaemcloud.com/adobe/mcp/aem from the July 2026 release. Tools cover page and fragment CRUD plus asset import, search, upload, download, move, copy, delete, and publish. MCP authenticates the signed-in Adobe ID and enforces AEM ACLs. Adobe tells practitioners to use AI Assistant rather than MCP tools for modify or delete. Experience Governance MCP needs a trial or paid license. Cloud Manager and Cloud Migration MCP servers stay separate. Official Java and JavaScript Headless SDKs and the aem-sdk-api Maven artifact exist. The Adobe I/O CLI with the Cloud Manager and AEM RDE plugins manages pipelines, logs, and Rapid Development Environments; it is not a content CLI. AEM Eventing posts CloudEvents to Adobe I/O webhooks. Microsoft lists a Preview Adobe Experience Manager Power Automate connector, but it is AEM Forms Communications, not Sites, Assets, or Content Fragments. Zapier, Make, and n8n built-in catalogs had no AEM connector on 2026-09-01. Computer-use viability is unassessed. API and MCP both score 8; API is the best path because Server-to-Server credentials support unattended agents, while MCP requires an interactive Adobe ID.
