Can AI agents automate Microsoft Excel?

Excel has broad, maintained automation paths, but no single path spans every edition. Microsoft Graph provides REST create, read, update, and delete operations for tables, ranges, charts, and other objects in OOXML workbooks stored on business OneDrive, SharePoint, or Group drives. Office Scripts, Office.js add-ins, VBA, the Excel Online (Business) connector, and Power Automate for desktop cover cloud workflow and local application automation. The Graph path is preferred for agents because it avoids a desktop session; consumer OneDrive and legacy .xls workbooks are outside its documented coverage.
