Can AI agents automate VMware vSphere?

VMware vSphere is automatable today through the vSphere Automation REST API together with the vSphere Web Services (VIM) API. This record is the on-premises virtualization platform whose core components are ESX and vCenter. It is not Windows 365, not Citrix published applications, and not Microsoft Azure. Broadcom documents a resource-based REST API on HTTPS port 443 with JSON bodies and CRUD verbs for configuration, authentication, certificates, tagging, cluster lifecycle, content libraries, and Supervisor/Kubernetes services. The same documentation states that the Automation API does not cover all vSphere features and that the SOAP-based Web Services API remains required for host management, VM provisioning, monitoring, and vSAN. Session creation is POST /api/session with base64 vCenter Single Sign-On credentials in an Authorization: Basic header; subsequent calls send vmware-api-session-id. Official bindings include pyvmomi for VIM, the vSphere Automation SDK for Python and Java, and VMware PowerCLI (Install-Module VMware.PowerCLI, Connect-VIServer). A first-party vSphere MCP server, named iPaaS connector, or computer-use result was not established. developer.broadcom.com returned a maintenance page during this pass; live Automation and SDK pages were opened on techdocs.broadcom.com. REST plus official SDKs are the best path.
