Can AI agents automate InfluxDB 3?

InfluxData · hybrid · databaseobservabilitydeveloper-tools

InfluxDB 3 is automatable today through its HTTP API. This record covers InfluxDB 3 Core, Enterprise, Cloud Dedicated, Clustered, and Cloud Serverless. It is not InfluxDB 1.x or 2.x as the primary identity, and it is not Telegraf or Grafana. Core is the open-source release and runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows. Cloud Serverless and Cloud Dedicated are hosted. The v3 query API is /api/v3/query_sql and /api/v3/query_influxql, using GET or POST. Query parameters include db and q. Response formats include json, jsonl, csv, pretty, and parquet. New writes use /api/v3/write_lp. Existing v1 and v2 write workloads can use /write and /api/v2/write. Bearer authentication works with all endpoints: Authorization Bearer plus a database token. The v2 Token scheme and HTTP Basic are for v1 and v2 compatibility endpoints. v1 query-string authentication passes the token as the p parameter and ignores u. InfluxData documents client libraries named influxdb3-csharp, influxdb3-go, influxdb3-java, influxdb3-js, influxdb3-python, and influxdb3-rust. The page says InfluxData and the user community maintain them. The influxdb3 CLI query command takes the token as --token or INFLUXDB3_AUTH_TOKEN, reads SQL or InfluxQL from the command, a file, or stdin, and can emit json, jsonl, csv, or parquet. The same documentation lists influxdb3 write, influxdb3 create, and influxdb3 show tokens. InfluxData also publishes a local database MCP server, influxdata/influxdb3_mcp_server, run with Node or the Docker image influxdata/influxdb3-mcp-server. The README lists tools for line protocol writes, SQL and InfluxQL queries, and database create, update, and delete across Core, Enterprise, Dedicated, Clustered, and Serverless. INFLUX_MCP_TOOL_PROFILE=readonly hides write and admin tools. A separate hosted documentation search MCP at https://influxdb-docs.mcp.kapa.ai is docs search with Google or GitHub sign-in for rate limits, not the database server. https://docs.influxdata.com/llms.txt and https://www.influxdata.com/llms.txt are first-party indexes. Connector catalogs were not opened. Computer-use viability is unassessed. API scores 8 and is the best path because query and write are HTTP calls with a bearer token and do not require a local MCP process. CLI scores 7. MCP scores 7 because the database server is official and useful, and it runs as a local process.
