Can AI agents automate Aiven?
Aiven · saas · databaseplatformdeveloper-tools
Aiven is automatable today through its REST API, the avn CLI, and a hosted first-party MCP server. This record is the Aiven control plane for managed services such as PostgreSQL and Apache Kafka. It is not Confluent Cloud or Neon. API calls use Authorization: aivenv1 TOKEN against https://api.aiven.io. The documented project list is GET /v1/project. GET /v1/clouds can be called without a token and then returns the standard cloud regions. Aiven documents session, personal, and application tokens for that header. The avn CLI installs with pip install aiven-client or Homebrew, logs in with avn user login EMAIL --token, and prints JSON with --json. Marketplace accounts use --tenant, with aws shown as the example. Aiven hosts an MCP server at https://mcp.aiven.live/mcp. The client authorizes on Aiven. Tools list and change projects and services, manage Kafka topics and connectors, and run PostgreSQL read and write SQL. The README warns that agents can delete services and produce messages. Read-only mode is ?read_only=true. Service scope is ?services_scope= with values such as pg, kafka, and application. Local stdio uses npx mcp-aiven and AIVEN_TOKEN. The homepage documents a free tier for always-on Kafka, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and OpenSearch with no credit card and no time limit. https://aiven.io/docs/llms.txt is a documentation index. A separate language SDK, webhooks, and connector catalogs were not opened. Computer-use viability is unassessed. API and CLI both score 8. API is the best path because the CLI is a client of that API and requires a local install. The hosted MCP scores 7 because it can delete services and data.
Best path today: api · Overall automatability: 8/10
