Can AI agents automate HCL Notes (Lotus Notes)?

HCL Notes and Domino retain deep legacy programmability and now add a modern, security-scoped REST layer. Domino REST API runs with Domino or Notes on Windows, Linux and macOS and publishes per-server OpenAPI 3.0.2 definitions. Administrators explicitly map each NSF database to a scope and schema that controls readable and writable forms, fields, views, folders, agents, DQL queries, decryption, code and optimistic revision checks. The basis API reads and writes documents, views and folders and invokes approved agents; separate APIs cover personal mail, calendar, contacts, todos and notebooks, administration, setup and Office file access. OAuth 2.0 authorization-code applications, Domino-issued JWTs, and trusted external OIDC or JWT providers preserve Domino ACL evaluation and scope restrictions. HCL publishes a Node SDK and examples in JavaScript, while Domino Designer 14.5 retains LotusScript, formula language, Java and CORBA objects, COM or OLE classes, C APIs, XPages, DQL, agents and enterprise connectors. This is strong automation for known NSF designs, but schema creation, Designer access, server configuration, client or server runtime, ACLs, signed code, version coupling and decades of custom application behavior are material costs. The bundled shell helper is useful for setup and tests but is not a complete business CLI. No product-specific first-party MCP, verified named low-code connector, repeatable visual RPA result, or computer-use result was established.
