Can AI agents automate ArcGIS Pro?

ArcGIS Pro is automatable today through ArcPy, Esri's first-party Python site package that talks to a licensed Windows desktop session. Esri documents that all geoprocessing tools can be called from Python, and the Mapping module automates projects, maps, layouts, and exports. Scripts run in the Python window, ArcGIS Notebooks, script tools, Python toolboxes, or stand-alone through the shipped propy launcher after a licensed session is initialized. ModelBuilder chains tools visually; tasks guide mixed interactive and automated steps. The official ArcGIS Pro SDK for .NET adds add-ins, managed configurations, plug-in data sources, and CoreHost applications, with Cartographic Information Model access from both Python and .NET. The path is local and license-gated: the current product runs on 64-bit Windows 11 or Windows Server only, Named User or Single Use licenses apply, and Basic, Standard, Advanced, and extension licenses gate individual tools. Stand-alone import of arcpy raises RuntimeError: NotInitialized unless Pro is open, signed in automatically, or authorized offline. The ArcGIS API for Python is a separate Web GIS library for ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise and is outside this record. One maintained third-party MCP server wraps the local ArcPy engine; Esri has not declared first-party MCP ownership. Zapier, Make, and n8n had no ArcGIS Pro connector on 2026-08-22. Microsoft's public ArcGIS connector targets ArcGIS Online organizations, not this desktop product. Computer-use viability is unassessed.
