Can AI agents automate Microsoft Configuration Manager?
Microsoft · on-prem · endpoint-managemententerprise
Microsoft Configuration Manager current branch is automatable through the SMS Provider and the administration service, not through Microsoft Graph and not as Microsoft Intune. The administration service is a REST API based on OData v4. The WMI route at /AdminService/wmi/ supports GET and POST to over 700 classes. The versioned /AdminService/v1.0/ route covers newer functionality. Callers must be Configuration Manager administrative users. On-premises calls use Windows integrated authentication. Access through a cloud management gateway requires a Microsoft Entra ID account. Microsoft also publishes a .NET management provider wrapping WMI and the official ConfigurationManager PowerShell module. Tenant attach and co-management are integrations with Intune, not this product. A first-party MCP server was not established. Computer-use viability is unassessed. API scores 6 because the surface is broad but on-premises, Windows-centric, and SMS Provider-gated.
