Can AI agents automate Chargebee?

Chargebee Billing is automatable today through its site-scoped REST API at https://{site}.chargebee.com/api/v2/. This record is Chargebee recurring billing, usage metering, subscriptions, invoices, and revenue recognition as exposed by Chargebee Billing and the vendor-hosted MCP data-lookup agent. It is not Stripe Billing, Zuora, or Recurly. The API uses HTTP Basic Auth with the site API key as the username and an empty password, accepts form-encoded POST bodies, and returns JSON. GET reads and POST writes cover customers, subscriptions (create, change, pause, cancel), invoices, usage events, quotes, hosted pages, events, and webhook endpoints, with test-site keys, Time Machine lifecycle tests, chargebee-idempotency-key retries, and documented 429 handling. Chargebee publishes official client libraries for Node, Python, PHP, Java, Go, Ruby, and .NET plus an OpenAPI v3.0.1 spec. Webhooks POST application/json event snapshots and can be managed in the dashboard or via the Webhook endpoints API (up to five endpoints per site). Bulk Operations import and export CSV for subscriptions, customers, invoices, and catalog objects. The hosted first-party MCP at https://YOUR-SUBDOMAIN.mcp.chargebee.com/data_lookup_agent authenticates with OAuth or a Bearer API key and exposes maintained lookup tools for subscriptions, invoices, customers, catalog, quotes, credit notes, transactions, events, exports, and MRR history. The Knowledge Base agent answers public docs questions without auth. Onboarding MCP can create catalog and demo data, but only on test and sandbox sites. The Chargebee MCP marketing page opened 2026-09-08 still states that production write actions are launching shortly; this pass does not treat live-site MCP writes as generally available. Zapier, Make, Power Automate, and n8n catalogs were not opened. A general-purpose Chargebee billing CLI was not established from opened developer docs. Computer-use viability is unassessed. API scores 8 and is the best path because it is the documented read/write control plane. MCP scores 7: official and useful for live lookup, not production-grade write coverage.
